I can hardly wait!!!!

We now have Massachussetts!

Thanks so Maura McNutty for purchasing one of our Adopt Africa magnets and helping to make my dream of having our magnet in every state come closer to fruition. :)

Charity:Water ROCKS

So for my 30th Birthday I am going to be fundraising for Charity:Water. Basically you just ask everyone to bring the dollar amount of your age in lieu of gifts. But hopefully maybe some people will donate more :)
A lady in one of my adoption groups has a brother who was in Ethiopia for Charity:Water's most recent trip there and got some amazing photos. These are some of my favorites:

Please consider sponsoring a child...

Dear "Trees of Glory" sponsor families!

I wanted to send everyone a quick update on our progress with the sponsor program. Of the 84kids at TOG (Trees of Glory), we now have 50 kids matched with a sponsor family! Your generous monthly committment along with your letters, care, concern and prayers, are already having a big impact for the kids at this care-point!! (Remember, you can email your sponsor child at ethiopia@hopechest.org. Be sure to include your child's name and registration number in the subject line. It will take about 2 weeks from when you email the letter to when it is translated and read to your child.)

This rural community (located 2 hours north of the capital city, Addis Ababa) has been very affected by famine and poverty. Most of the kids at TOG are double-orphans (meaning they have lost both parents) and are living with a relative or neighbor that is not able to provide for them. As a result, many of the kids were being "sold" as an indentured servant to local livestock owners to work night and day herding cattle.

What a heart-wrenching decision for these families to decide to "sell" one child in order to feed the other children in their care. Children's Hopechest discovered that many of the children were being paid about $12 PER YEAR for their labor. Without the intervention of the local government that is requiring the guardians to bring the children to the care-point, and Children's Hopechest who is setting up the sponsor program, these children would never have had the opportunity to go to school or rise up out of poverty!

Now that over half of the children are sponsored, we can fully implement a regular feeding program at Trees of Glory!!! As we match the remaining 34 children with sponsors, we will be able to expand the feeding program to include 2 nutritious meals each day, along with protein (eggs and meat)! Sponsorship ensures that each child has food, clothing, medical care, education and Christian discipleship.

The Ethiopia staff of Children's Hopechest is already meeting with the kids every week - counseling, mentoring, teaching biblical stories and demonstrating the love of God for these kids. It is our hope that by September, we will be able to start a school on the grounds at TOG.

There are 34 kids that still need to be matched with a sponsor. Would you please spread the word to your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors about sponsoring a child at Trees of Glory? Email a link to my blog, forward my facebook reports, and if you have a blog, please place a link to my blog. With all of us working together - we can make an immediate and lasting impact for the kids at TOG!

Have a great weekend!
Warm regards, Karen Wistrom

My first wasp sting - OUCH

On Father's Day we went swimming at my mom's house and I experienced my very first wasp sting. NOT fun at all. I didn't know what had happened until I saw the stinger sitting in my arm and it started burning like crazy. It's now 2 days later and my arm still looks like this! I kind of feel guilty but once we got home I totally decemated the wasp nest on our front porch. They'd left us alone so I was planning to leave them alone, but after being stung I didn't want one to get Ezra b/c I now know how bad it hurts, or am I just a wimp? :)

Could he be any cuter???

Today I took Ezra to Bearcat Park in Aledo. It was HOT! But I did learn how to make Ezra smile for a photo. I just have to say, "Ezra, show mommy your teeth" and voila! A Smile!!

Some random photos...

Yesterday I had this pet duck brought into the clinic after being attacked by a raccoon. Her neck had been ripped open and his bill was demolished. She is the sweetest duck I've ever seen so I didn't want to just give up on her. We cleaned her up and bandaged her and hopefully I'll be able to post some photos of her as she recovers :)

I also got to see this very cute tortoise named "Happy". Pictured here with one of our "super techs" Missy :)

Last week I walked into the kitchen and found Michael wearing Ezra's cape doing the dishes! Now that's what I call a "Super Dad"!

These are some of the tees and bibs I did recently for people from my etsy store :)

God's soldiers are all around!

Truly amazing video! I had tears in my eyes. But the most poignant moment is unclear from the video quality. Here's what is said at the end b/w Danny and Carlos:

If you listen carefully at the end you hear me saying this to Danny.
“Keep trying to make it man.”
He looked me square in the eye…cocked his head sideways with a confused look on his face…and said,
“Trying to make it? No man. I ain’t trying to make it…I’m making it. Jah puts His soldiers everywhere. Jah says, Yea though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death… So He places some of us, in that valley.”

I still have some work to do on the blog and some elements to add but I wanted to let you guys know it's out there in the "blog world" :)

Professional Logo

One of my friends is a photographer and she asked me a long time ago to come up with a "logo" of sorts that she could put on her photos as a watermark and for advertiseing. Tonight I felt sort of inspired and decided to just create a few ideas that were relatively simple that would translate to print.

Some of my favorite kiddos!

A few weeks ago I posted some pictures of my friend Karen's little boy (with a frog on his face). Her boys are absolutly adorable and when I saw these photos of them on her blog I had to share them with you guys as well. Her boys were adopted at the same time but we not biological brothers. I thought these pictures were just the sweetest testament to the blessing of adoption to both parents and their children.

Great video, very inspiring.

A fellow adoptive mom shared this video with our yahoo group. Her husband will be in Ethiopia soon working with this organizations. Click the link to see the video:

Just pictures!

So I have FINALLY sat down long enough to upload some photos of Ezzy from the past month or so.

Raymond, one of my best friends and Ezra's "parrain"-(Godfather) came to visit a few weeks ago to see Ezra before heading to South Africa for a month to see the World Cup. These are some pictures of his visit to Fort Worth.

Ezra's showing us his teeth :)

Bath time can be so much fun for moms too! Ezra's sideways mohawk :)

Swimming at Sayce's house with floaties for the first time. Of course Ezra prefers to refer to his floaties as "snuffies"!

The Afro-mullet. I tried and tried to get a good picture of this incredible hair-do but I couldn't manage it :(

Who needs Guitar Hero when you have the real thing!

This weekend we worked on takeing our back yard from this:

Thank you for the awesome Birthday presents Sayce and Gommy! - love Ezra
